Each pirate has a unique number and ability. In each round, all players simultaneously reveal a card of their chosen crew member. Then, those cards are sorted numerically, from lowest to highest. The abilities of each pirate activate in this ranking order, which is crucial for planning your strategy.
The card played by the active player (i.e. the player currently taking their turn) takes precedence. Then, the other player's card abilities resolve in player order, starting to the left of the active player.
Absolutely! While the initial hand draw can be a little luck-dependent, the drafting phase at the end of each round helps you curate your deck. This allows you to plan for future turns and gives you opportunities to acquire key crew members that will help you with your strategy. Furthermore, playing multiple cards in the same round allows you to have more options.
Libertalia is played over a set number of rounds, determined by the player count. At the end of the game, players score based on the treasure they've collected, and any other victory points acquired during the game. The player with the most victory points wins the game.
